Fear not Giants fans, this is not a demotion

San Francisco Giants 1st round draft pick Buster Posey has had his Hawaiian vacation cut short as the Giants have sent him to their Spring Training complex for more work.  Posey played in only 3 games for the Waikiki Beach Boys due to the depth at catcher but his 6-14 stint plate gave the Giants some optimism about his long term ability.

Posey will join fellow 50 other Giants prospects headed by 18 year old Angel Villalona and new 16 year old phenom Rafael Rodriguez to get some extended winter work.  While Villalona looks to begin the ‘09 season at High-A San Jose, the Giants seem satisfied to take their time with Rodriguez, whose 6-5 frame and jaw dropping power potential may warrant every penny of his lavish $2.55 million signing bonus.

10/14 AFL Report

I hope that you all enjoy these reports as much as I enjoy bringing them to you.  Remember, the performances of players in the Arizona Fall League often give us a good view on what to expect from them in the coming year.  It was just two years ago that Ryan Braun electified the desert with a sterling fall performance only to win ROY in the following season.  True, for every big bang there awaits a fizzling dud (Sam Fuld?), but this year, it seems that many top prospects are living up to their potential.  Today’s top performer was difficult to choose as there weren’t many performances that stood out above the rest.  However, today’s award goes to Beau Mills whose 2 singles and 2 walks allowed him to score 3 times in Surprise’s 8-6 win over the previously undefeated Peoria Saguaros.
