- Rock solid talent in a fragile body
Desmond Jennings made his Arizona Fall League debut last night for the Peoria Javelinas. Jennings missed virtually all of 2008 with a back injury and then with a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery.
Jennings made his way back to the field last night for the Javelinas going 0-3 with 2 walks and a strikeout. The fact that he is back on the field is a very positive note for the Tampa Bay Rays. Jennings has all of the makings of a 5-tool player with superior plate discipline and supreme athleticism. The big caveat with Jennings’ game is his injury issues. This has been the third major injury for Jennings in less than two years.
The current market for Jennings’ 2007 1st year cards is somewhat limited to Ebay stores and other online sellers which tend to price their products at higher premiums. Nonetheless, his chromes and sterlings can be had for $2-3 each. Keep your eye out for other auctions that should sell for less. Also, keep your eye out for Jennings’ performance in the AFL. He likely will begin ‘09 with High-A Vero Beach.
