5/3 AAA Minor League Report

Hey gang!  I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.  Let’s get back into the swing of things with the AAA report from Sunday’s games.  Carlos Gonzalez continues to sting the ball and could be close to making his Rockies debut, Fernando Martinez had three base knocks including his third HR of the season.  Kyle Blanks came up big with his fifth HR and Jesus Guzman continues to look like a middle of the lineup hitter as he hit his sixth and drove in three runs.  On the mound, Clay Buchholz allowed two hits and walked two in 5.1 shutout innings earning his first win and Wade Davis pitched well to earn his third.

Today’s top player is Florida Marlins second base prospect Chris Coghlan.  The 23 year old Mississippi alum went 4-5 with his first HR, four RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.  Coghlan started out slowly but has caught fire recently hitting .415 with nine RBI and 10 runs scored in his last 10 games.  Coghlan is an ideal top of the order hitter with a decent amount of pop, excellent plate discipline and excellent speed that he leverages well on the basepaths.  The Fish currently have All-Star Dan Uggla in the fold at second base, but there has been much conjecuture that his arbitration eligible contract will not be renewed after this season.  Coghlan is rapidly showing that he is more than ready to be a regular contributor at the major league level and it seems reasonable to expect that he will get his opportunity at some point this summer.
