Hello fellow and future prospectors!

 Boy it feels good to be back!  The past year and a half has been a refreshing time to pursue some other ventures and etch out new chapters to my life story.  All the while, though, I have missed spending time researching, discussing, and writing about this thriving and exciting niche of the baseball world.

So here we go again!  Like any neglected piece of real estate, there are weeds to chop down and brush to clear in order to make this a tidy little blog once again.  I am thrilled to do my part, though, and encourage you to do yours by making your voice heard through the comments section or via email.

For those of you that I haven’t met yet, here’s a little bit about me.

My name is Jeremy Porter and I live in the northwest corner of Washington state in a little town called Birch Bay.  No, we are not a southern annex of Alaska, and yes, I can see Canada from my house.  I am blessed to have a wonderful and supportive wife named Amber and a 9 year old son, Derek, who is a divinely sculpted conglomeration of the best parts of his mother and myself. 

My experience with baseball cards goes back to 1985 when I bought my first 35 cent pack of Topps baseball cards at the Food Mart in Seattle in fervent search of my southpawed mentor Mark Langston.  A shuffle through the 15 brightly colored cards didn’t render a Langston or any other Mariner for that matter, but the green backed cards complete with stats and trivia set me on my way to what has been a fulfilling love affair with the game of baseball.

The advent of eBay really started me going with the prospecting bit.  I quickly became fascinated, then enamored, with the notion that baseball cards could be sold and attained in a real time fluid market.  My entrepreneurial and capitalistic juices began to flow.  I started to research minor league prospects, pouring over statistics in the bi-monthly Baseball America and whatever other websites published box scores.  Large blocks of my free time were spent parusing value bins at local card shops and various eBay auctions looking for targeted players.  There were many difficult lessons to learn along the way, but each has provided an invaluable service towards refining the way that I go about things today.  The education is an ongoing process and I look forward to sharing what I know and continue to learn with you.
