Russell Mitchell homered and drove in four RBI for the second consectutive day and Scott Sizemore hit his third HR of the young season.  Andrew Lambo collected four more hits and Michael Stanton’s three hits and third stolen base continues to give evidence that he’s developing into a more well rounded offensive player.  Orioles 3B prospect Josh Bell rapped three hits and drove in three runs, but it was show stopping teammate Stephen Strasburg who takes home top honors with a solid AFL debut, pitching 3.1 shut out innings, allowing two hits, one walk while striking out two for his first AFL win.

10/13 Arizona Fall League Report

Posted by Jeremy on October 14, 2009 under Minor League Ball today | Be the First to Comment

The 2009 Arizona Fall League season kicked off in grand fashion yesterday with several fine offensive performances.  Homeruns by Phillies top prospect Domomic Brown, Baltimore’s Brandon Snyder, Washington’s Chris Marrero, and Minnesota’s Rene Tosoni helped to fuel fine offensive outputs for their clubs but today’s top performance came from NY Mets 1B prospect and former 1st round selection Ike Davis.  The 6-5 son of former Minnesota Twins pitcher Ron Davis went 4-6 yesterday with his first Hr, six RBI and two doubles to pace the Surprise Rafters 17 run output against the Peoria Javelinas.

Davis had a big time bounce back over two levels in his first full professional season, hitting .298 with 20 HR 71 RBI and 31 doubles.  With Carlos Delgado’s time with the organization at a likely close, the focus for the next Mets 1B may turn to within the organization.  A short term salve may be Nick Evans but Davis’ long term potential is considerably better than Evans and current Rafter teammate Lucas Duda.  If Davis continues to tear the cover off of the ball this fall, thinks could get real interesting at that spot this coming spring.

AFL Player of the Day—IKE DAVIS

4/20 Low-A Minor League Report

SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE

The Midwest League took the night off, but there were several nice efforts to report in the Sally.  Several of these players do not have cards yet, but these daily reports should give some of you prospectors a heads up for some of these guys once their cardboard apparitions start hitting the market.  Andrew Brackman punched out eight hitters in six innings, but lost for the second time.  Stolmy Pimentel tossed five shutout innings for his first win and Zeke Spruill KO’ed seven hitters over six innings for his second victory.  Offensively, Chase D’Arnaud hit his first HR, as did former AFLAC All-American David Christensen, Sean Ratliff, and Patrick Rose.  Today’s Player of the Day, though, is Kyle Greenwalt who surrendered just three hits and a walk over six shutout innings for his first win of the season.
